We are very glad you are interested in finding out more about our bilingual school community. St. Mary’s School is a community that is born out of the fundamental need of two mothers seeking to provide their children with the tools and skills needed to succeed in their lives.

St. Mary’s School seeks to empower leaders so they may become models of excellence and happiness by inspiring them with love, creativity, and passion. We are a community of leading pioneers in educating proactive, responsible, and happy leaders while inspiring greatness one child at a time. We are proud to be the first bilingual school to become part of the The Leader in Me process in the Dominican Republic.

We open our doors to students with different educational needs making us an inclusive bilingual school community. This way, we provide our students with an understanding and knowledge of empathy, acceptance, and collaborative learning. We believe that through these peer relationships children can truly learn to relate to each other by listening with their eyes, ears, but above all with their hearts.

More than a school, a second home

St. Mary’s School is a private bilingual (English-Spanish) preschool and elementary school in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The school is located in the residential area of Evaristo Morales. Founded in 2007 by three teachers and mothers who hold more than 20 years of experience in the field of education.

St. Mary’s School is a bilingual school community born out of the fundamental need of two mothers seeking to provide their children with the tools and skills needed to succeed in their lives. At that time, they were looking for a place where their children would feel welcome in a family atmosphere and with a low teacher-student ratio in the classroom. More than a school we were looking for a second home.

In addition, we wanted an academic environment that would allow them to be challenged and at the same time provide them with support in the different stages of development they would be going through.

A well-rounded learning experience

Through the years we have been able to add to our proposal thus making St. Mary’s School a well-rounded learning experience based on the belief that school is much more than just books. Because of this we strive to provide them not only with a challenging academic experience, but also with the opportunity to encounter a wide spectrum of co-curricular activities adding to their emotional bank accounts the feeling of pride in themselves, in what they can do, and allowing them to shine with their own light.

Seeking to provide our students with more, we began seeking ways in which to promote and teach them the skills necessary to become leaders and allowing them to be successful in whatever society they would have to be a part of.

- School culture based on leadership skills -

First Lighthouse School in the Dominican Republic

In our quest to find best practices around the world in which to achieve our end in mind, we came across the Leader in Me process and our prayers had been answered and our expectations had been met. We then went on to become the first Leader in Me School and the first Lighthouse School in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean.

In the summer of 2014, we began the journey of our first year in the process and it has been a challenging yet extremely rewarding path. We have now built a school culture based XXI century leadership skills that is making our leaders not only in charge of their learning process, but also establish better peer relationships based on trust, respect for themselves and the diversity around them.
